HOW TO MANAGE EGG PRODUCTION SUPPLEMENTS
WELCOME TO A NEW CHAPTER OF THE COLUMN#QUEDILOALLESPERTO WITH MAURIZIO ARDUIN - CENTRO STUDI RÈGIA STAZIONE SPERIMENTALE DI POLLICOLTURA!
We talk about the nutrition of our poultry, and in particular the elements that can supplement it: Francesco asks: "How long can hens take supplements for egg production?"
Supplements are not medicines, but mixtures of nutrients (proteins, vitamins, mineral salts, etc.) that supplement the cereal ration that a farmer is usually able to obtain. The cereal mixture alone does not meet a hen's dietary needs, and supplements are therefore used to remedy this problem. Supplements should be administered about a month before the start of the first laying cycle. They are then discontinued during the plumage moulting period and distributed again when the hens resume laying.
Supplements are only used, however, when the farmer composes the feed ration himself using grains produced on the farm or purchased: when using commercial feed for laying hens, supplements for egg production are not needed.
