INCREASE THE FERTILITY OF COCKS AND HENS

WELCOME TO A NEW CHAPTER OF THE COLUMN#QUEDILOALLESPERTO WITH MAURIZIO ARDUIN - CENTRO STUDI RÈGIA STAZIONE SPERIMENTALE DI POLLICOLTURA!

Let's talk about increasing the fertility of our poultry: 'Pollaio Cittadino Malo' asks: "is there a way to make roosters more fertile?"

In general, a cock should not have fertility problems. When this happens, it is especially due to inbreeding problems, and it is therefore always advisable to change the male. To increase the fertility of cocks and hens, it is recommended to distribute germinated seeds at a rate of about 15-20 g per head per day.

Germinated seeds are one of the richest natural sources of vitamins and enzymes, especially proteolytic and amylolytic enzymes, which originate during germination. In addition, germination results in the release of amino acids (especially arginine) that, in connection with sex hormones, promote fertility rates. Thanks to the germination process, there is also a fairly significant percentage increase in vitamins A - E - B, as well as an approx. 10% increase in protein.

Germinated seeds are obtained in 6-7 days, and feeding them to poultry also increases the digestibility of other seeds or mixtures fed at the same time. To achieve germination (in the case of oats) it is necessary to soak the seeds for twenty-four hours in water at 12 degrees. If the water temperature is lower, twelve more hours of soaking will be necessary. Afterwards, the water is removed and the seeds are collected and piled in layers of about 25-30 cm. Germination, which manifests itself with the emission of a short radicle, begins after 24-36 hours. this phenomenon produces heat with the consequent rapid evaporation of the absorbed moisture, so it is advisable to stir up the seed mass from time to time. In four to five days, the radicle reaches a length of about half the grain and can be administered.
