Can I set up a small henhouse in my garden or on my terrace? What are the regulations?

Before starting up a small hen farm, even for self-consumption, you need to find out from your municipality what the rules are for this activity.

In some municipalities, such as some in the Italian province of Florence, keeping two hens is permitted even on the terrace of a block of flats, with a relative reduction in the cost of removing urban waste.

In other municipalities poultry keeping is forbidden even if a small park is available.
