How many chickens can I keep in downtown at most?
Current Italian legislation allows up to 250 birds per year to be kept for self-consumption, without indicating the species.
This means that you can keep up to 250 chickens, 250 quails or 250 geese.
Different species of poultry may also be kept up to 250 birds, e.g. 100 quails, 100 chickens and 50 geese.
The maximum number of animals to be kept indicates the constant presence of poultry on the land for own consumption.
If, for example, we consider raising chickens organically, which last for 81 days of age, in one year it is possible to complete four rearing cycles, which means that in downtown a family can raise up to 1,000 chickens a year for its own consumption.
However, this is a national regulation that can change in other countries.
It is therefore advisable to check with your municipality to see whether special rules have been issued for keeping poultry in the urban areas.
